McDaniel, a Yale graduate, has progressed fast through the coaching levels. Kyle Shanahan began working with him in 2006 and has taken the young assistant with him wherever he has gone.

The 38-year-old was the 49ers’ run game coordinator from 2017 to 20 before being promoted to offensive coordinator this season. San Francisco concluded the 2021 season with the NFL’s seventh-ranked offense.
