I Will Stand, Chesney’s fourth album and third under BNA Records, was released in 1997. His first number-one smash on the Billboard Country charts, “She’s Got It All,” became the album’s lead single and remained there for three weeks.
“A Chance,” the second single, nearly entered the Top 10. “That’s Why I’m Here,” the third single, reached its peak in 1998 at number two.
Everywhere We Go, Chesney’s fourth album released through BNA was made available in 1999. The songs “How Forever Feels” and “You Had Me from Hello,” the latter of which was influenced by a lyric from the movie Jerry Maguire, each went to number one in consecutive weeks.
Two further songs from the album, “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” and “What I Need to Do,” respectively peaked at positions 11 and 8 on the country charts.
Chesney received his first platinum certification for Everywhere We Go. His original neotraditional country sound gave way to the country-pop/trop rock/Gulf and Western sound which has since made him famous with this album.
