Chesney released his fourth album, I Will Stand, in 1997, which was also his third for BNA Records. “She’s Got It All,” the album’s first song, became his first number-one success on the Billboard country charts, where it remained for three weeks.
“A Chance,” the second song, came close to reaching the Top 10. “That’s Why I’m Here,” the third single, reached number two in 1998.
Everywhere We Go, Chesney’s fourth album under BNA, was released in 1999. With “How Forever Feels” and “You Had Me from Hello,” the album produced two consecutive number-one singles, the latter inspired by a lyric from the film Jerry Maguire.
The album also included two more songs, “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” and “What I Need to Do,” which charted at 11 and 8, respectively, on the country charts. Chesney received his first platinum certification with Everywhere We Go.
This album represented a departure from his original neotraditional country style and introduced him to the country pop/trop rock/Gulf and Western sound for which he has subsequently become recognized.
