Kun en pige is based on Lise Nrgaard’s autobiographical writings. Her struggles as a young female journalist in the 1940s and her childhood in Roskilde are fascinating.
Emma (Line Kruse) is the only child of an affluent Danish family, and she is eleven years old. Emma’s parents appear to be more concerned with themselves than with her.
She decides to fake her kidnapping after overhearing her mother speak about how sad it must be to have your child taken one evening.
Malthe, a kindhearted, childlike, naive sewer cleaner who stumbles on her, is the first person she meets.
After she convinces him that she is a Russian princess whose family is being pursued by Bolsheviks, Malthe lets Emma stay with him in his extremely poor domicile. Emma decides to return home after being “kidnapped” for a few days.
