Does Gillette Stadium Have A Roof?

Gillette Stadium does not have a roof but is under renovation for major upgrades. Foxborough is an outdoor arena without a retractable dome.

Since the New England Patriots prefer playing in the natural weather condition, the franchise has not installed a dome or any covering at their home.

The Patriots are adept at playing during conditions of snowfall or rain. This goes against the teams who are used to playing indoors.

Looking back at the history, Foxboro Stadium can not be forgotten. It is the previous venue of the Patriots.

People may wonder, “Where is Foxboro Stadium?” It was demolished in 2002.

Owing to extreme weather conditions like winter, snow, rain, and winds, some stadiums prefer to have a roof.

There are only 10 domed stadiums in the NFL. Among them, 5 teams have retractable roofs.

Except for the Patriots, the Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium, Buffalo Bills Highmark Stadium and Browns First Energy stadium are also roofless.

The Tennessee Titans’ Nissan stadium is also on the list but they are planning to get a new domed stadium in the future.

Gillette Stadium Dome Status

Gillette Stadium is an open type ground without any dome structure. The open-air design provides coverage above rows 34 of sections 102 and 107.

Partial coverage is available in row 34 as well. Besides that, some portions of section CL6 are also covered.

Having an outdoor stadium suggests the teams prefer adorning the field in the natural New England weather.

A roof stadium is advantageous because the franchise can host the league championship and Super Bowl at their land.

It appears that Gillette, located in Foxborough, Massachusetts, will not host a Super Bowl for quite some time.

The stadium hosted the 2002 Major League Soccer season as their first event. They used to have natural grass during their earlier years but later they embraced the turf field.

On 20 May, one of the biggest pop stars of this generation, Taylor Swift performed at Gillette Stadium all drenched in rain. It was her second Ears Tour, arguably the highest-grossing US tour.

At the other end of the spectrum, Kenny Chesney had to postpone his Sunday show because of a hurricane in New England the same year.

The Patriots will go against the Philadelphia Eagles at their home venue in the upcoming season. The match is scheduled for the 10th of September.
