Does Fandor still exist?

Fandor is an American subscription streaming service and social video sharing platform which served as the ideal destination for film fans to stream recent arthouse favorites and classic cinematic offerings.

The streaming service which specializes in independent films, classics, silent films, foreign films, documentaries and shorts was previously available through Sling TV but was dropped on July 2, 2019.

Fandor’s assets are now under the control of an unknown group, which has allowed the site to function despite its now small group of temporary employees.

What happened to Fandor?

Fandor suffered a huge blowback in December 2018, relieving nearly all its staff members of their duties and sold its assets to an undisclosed investment company.

Fandor was however acquired by Video-streaming operator, Cinedigm in January 2021 and the parent company is planning to reboot the website and its digital publication dedicated to the art of filmmaking, Keyframe, under the leadership of The Film Detective founder, Philip Hopkins.

Fandor plans to relaunch its streaming app, available across the web, iOS, Android, among many others in 2021.
