Emilia Clarke has battled Aphasia, an upsetting brain condition that affects the sufferers’ speech and language skills.

It is usually caused by damage to the left brain, perhaps after a stroke, head injury, brain tumor, infection, or dementia.

The symptoms of the condition include problems with reading, listening, speaking, typing, or writing. Overall, it affects the ability to communicate.

Emilia Clarke’s Aphasia Journey: Remembering Her Stroke Horrors and Brain Surgery

In 2019, Emilia Clarke revealed her journey with Aphasia in The New Yorker.

The actress had stated that she suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, caused by a ruptured aneurysm in February 2011.

She subsequently underwent endovascular coiling surgery which led to Aphasia. She had undergone a second aneurysm surgically in 2013.

Two weeks after the surgery, the actress found she couldn’t remember her name. She spoke gibberish when trying to have a conversation.

Fortunately, the Aphasia passed after a week of her admission to the ICU. She had spent more than a month in the hospital’s bed.

After that, she began to film GOT’s second season but still, she was not totally recovered. Doctors had recovered a second aneurysm on her brain.

Clarke’s filming of the second season of GOT was filled with anxiety and she required many medications for her recovery.

Clarke had written in The New Yorker: “I was suffering from a condition called aphasia, a consequence of the trauma my brain had suffered,”

“In my worst moments, I wanted to pull the plug. I asked the medical staff to let me die. My job — my entire dream of what my life would be — centered on language, on communication. Without that, I was lost.”
