Dame Vivienne Isabel Westwood DBE RDI was an English fashion designer and businesswoman, largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream.
Do people still wear Vivienne Westwood?
British fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood has died aged 81. In a statement on Twitter, her fashion house said she died “peacefully and surrounded” by her family in Clapham, south London.
In 2019, her independent label still resonates amid the storied houses and a sea of new brands to remain a firm favorite of modern style icons.
We’ve seen girls reviving rare vintage treasures, preserved from the catwalks of landmark shows – like the Hercules and Omphale Francois Boucher corset from the autumn/winter 1993 show that Bella Hadid wore in September 2019 – while others embrace all things new from the brand under creative director (and Vivienne’s husband), Andreas Kronthaler.
Since establishing her brand in the ’80s, Dame Vivienne Westwood has been embraced by the fashion industry for her anarchic approach, which saw her unite anti-establishment punk tendencies with the corseted silhouettes beloved by 16th Century French courtiers and become one of Britain’s most important fashion forces in the process.
