Difference between perm and relaxer

Which is better perm or relaxer?

But they are not the same. They are applied to one’s hair for different purposes and the results that follow are different as well. While a perm is used to introduce curls to the hair with the help of plastic curling rods, a relaxer is used to loosen and relax natural curls and waves from the hair.

Do perms ruin your hair forever?

But, it is possible for a perm to permanently change the structure of the hair follicle. Perms use heat and chemicals to break down and re-configure the protein bonds in the follicle and the strand. These chemicals can cause permanent damage to the hair follicle, which could result in hair that is forever changed.

Do relaxers permanently straighten hair?

Hair relaxing is a form of permanent chemical straightening. Unlike keratin treatments, which are temporary and wash out after about 3 months, chemical relaxers are permanent, and last until your hair grows out.

Does relaxer curl your hair?

Relaxers are made to “relax” the curl completely, resulting in bone-straight strands. This sometimes results in over-processing and can leave the hair with less elasticity and little or no body.

Is texturizer a perm?

BTW: Texturizers aren’t perms, so they aren’t necessarily going to create texture (especially if you’re working with, say, straight hair).

Can relaxers permanently change hair texture?

I’ve reviewed a number of articles on the issue and most indicate that while relaxers can permanently damage your scalp or follicles, they do not alter the curl patter of your hair as it grows. Now, this is not to say that other interventions cannot alter the texture of your hair.

Can you permanently change hair type?

Unfortunately, you can‘t change the texture of your hair but you may notice some changes in it the more it grows. You can also never guarantee that your hair will always stay the same. As we grow as people things change, even your teeth move around and change position over time.

Is there a way to permanently change hair texture?

Can You Change The Texture Of Your Hair? Your hair texture is largely dependent on your hair follicles. There is not much that you can do to change your hair texture permanently.

Is it true that your hair changes every 7 years?

So while it is true that your hair changes consistently over time, the seven year cycle applies to less and less of our head as you age. “As time goes on, the part of our hair that cycles every seven years is increasingly restricted to the back of our head,” says Wesley.

What age does hair change?

As Dr. Thomas explains, “Individual hair diameter is progressively increasing through the early 40s, on average, before it begins to decrease around the age of 45.

Can hair type change?

Over time, your hair may become curly, straight, thin, or coarse. Many things can make hair change texture. Some you can‘t control. Others you may cause without knowing it.

Can naturally straight hair turn curly?

You can‘t turn truly straight hair into wavy or curly hair using natural methods. The same is true of wavy hair. If your hair is truly just wavy, you can‘t just make it curly naturally. There’s nothing wrong with using a curling iron or perming your hair if you have straight hair and want wavy hair.

Does hair get curlier with age?

Aging affects the hair follicles, but it is rarely a cause of curly hair. The same thing could happen with people who have thick hairs but curl producing hair follicles, especially women who have had long hair their whole lives. As they age, the curls will become more curly and noticeable.

What makes hair naturally curly?

Follicle Shape- The shape of your hair follicle largely determines your curl. Oval follicle shapes produce curly hair while round follicles produce straight hair. It’s this difference in shape—when one side is curved but the other side is flat—that makes your hair curl.

What makes straight hair go curly?

The most likely theory, in my opinion, is to do with your hormones. Hormones are a possible trigger for the curly hair gene. The change of muscle tone could affect the shape of your hair follicles and their direction of growth. Straight hair follicles grow straight out but curly hair follicles have a hook shape.

Can straight hair turn curly with age?

Hormonal changes

It is normally expected as the hair follicle changes from straight to flat. Hormonal changes can also cause your hair to change from straight to curls. It happens mostly in women when they reach menopause and post-menopause.

Is my straight hair actually Curly?

If it dries straight without a bend or curl, then your hair is straight (or type 1, as it is commonly referred to). If it dries with a slight curve or “S” shape, then it is considered wavy (type 2).

Can a baby born with straight hair turn curly?

Naturally curly hair is determined genetically. As a child grows, the size of the hair, by diameter, changes and grows as well. Therefore, babies may start off with fine, straight hair, or even thick, lush locks, and after just a few months or a year, their “inherited” curls may begin to pop up!

Why was my hair curlier when I was younger?

Curl patterns depend on genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors in addition to your hair care regimen. If that sounds like a lot of factors — that’s because it is! The good news is that if you had curly hair as a child, chances are good that you can implement certain changes to help your hair get curlier again.

Why is my hair curly underneath but straight on top?

Yes – hair can be naturally this straight and this curly on the same head! It’s very normal to have a mix of curl patterns on the same head of hair. It can remain dormant until activated and then it changes the shape of the hair follicle which changes the hair that grows from it.

Are all babies born with straight hair?

As for the texture of baby’s hair, dad’s genes will have a say when it comes to this trait. If he has straight hair, baby is likely to have straight or wavy hair, based on her mother, too. Chances are, if one parent has curly hair, it is unlikely that baby will have straight hair.

Does hair color come from Mom or Dad?

Is Hair Color Inherited from Mother or Father? Hair color comes from both parents through the chromosomes passed onto their child. The 46 chromosomes (23 from each parent) have genes made up of DNA with instructions of what traits a child will inherit.
