Difference between ox and cow

An ox (plural oxen), also known as a bullock in Australia and India, is a bovine trained as a draft animal. Oxen are commonly castrated adult male cattle; castration makes the animals easier to control. Cows (adult females) or bulls (intact males) may also be used in some areas. Oxen are usually yoked in pairs.

draft purposes, are known as oxen. A group of cows, cattle, or kine (an archaic term for more than one cow) constitutes a herd. English lacks a gender-neutral singular form, and so “cow” is used for both female individuals and all domestic bovines.

Most times, oxen are relatively larger than bulls. Although oxen are relatively larger than bulls, they are usually not as heavy. Compared to oxen, bulls have more lean meat and are more heavy.

“Plus, they have to be gentle enough that they can be yoked easily and controlled without any difficulty.” Unlike horses and mules, oxen are not directly controlled with bridle, bit, and reins handled by a driver seated in the wagon behind them.

An ox walks right about two miles per hour – and in areas (or ERAS) that used them, they covered about ten miles per day, because the oxen had to be rested, fed and watered periodically or they would either pull up lame or just flat-out stop.

Cattle used as draft animals are called oxen. Most are castrated adult bulls. When slaughtered the meat produced would be beef, just like any other cattle. So ox is beef.
