Difference between 1 and 2 diesel

What is #2 diesel used for?

#2 diesel fuel

This chemical compound holds the highest amount of energy components and lubricant properties in one mixture and offers the best fuel performance available on the market today. Most scientists agree that #2 grade diesel fuel will protect injection pumps, seals, and other important engine parts.

Should I run #1 Diesel?

Never ever run straight #1 diesel in your truck. It doesn’t have the lubricity of #2 and it will harm your fuel system. If you must run straight #1 then do like Gary does and add major lubricity-enhancing additives (I believe Gary uses PS and ashless 2-stroke oil). Diesel fuel is rated by its cetane number.

Is #2 diesel dyed?

Dyed diesel can be either #1 or #2 diesel. Both fuels require a red dye in them to confirm they are untaxed and cannot be used for on road fuels.

What’s the difference between diesel and premium diesel?

A premium diesel has a higher cetane number, better lubricity and includes detergents that provide injector-cleaning capability versus standard #2 diesel. Higher cetane equals a shorter delay and better ignition quality for quicker start-ups and less pollution.

Which is better Duramax or Cummins?

More horsepower means faster acceleration whether you’re towing or not. The current Duramax 6.6L L5P diesel wins this category with 445 horsepower. The current 6.7L 24V Ram Cummins diesel engines produce 400 horsepower. Historically, horsepower has swayed slightly in favor of the Duramax versus the Cummins line.

What are the worst diesel engines?

Ford Super Duty 6.0L (2003-2007)

Introduced mid-2003, the Ford 6.0L turbo is by far the worst modern diesel engine. It’s so bad, in fact, that Navistar (Powerstroke’s parent company) and Ford had a legal battle over it. The list of issues ranges from head gasket problems to catastrophic fuel system failures.

Why do diesels last longer?

Diesel engines do last longer than petrol ones. Diesel is a light oil and when burned and used as fuel by the vehicle it lubricates the parts of the engine. This prolongs the life of the engine. This is partly because of the intricate fuel pump which is expensive to repair or replace.

Is it bad to drive a diesel short distances?

Diesel Rule 3: Don’t buy diesels for low mileage or inner city life. Also known as “diesel car city driving”, you want to avoid doing this. Driving at low speeds and short distances clogs up your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) quickly.

Why are diesel oil changes so expensive?

In general, a diesel oil change can be more expensive than a standard oil change simply because diesel fuel and oil cost more than petroleum.

Should you drive a diesel hard?

Driving a diesel engine hard will produce less soot per kWh of useful work. Period. Forget about the momentary puff of black smoke you sometimes see as the turbo spools up. It is the net effect that matters.

Are diesels expensive to maintain?

Diesel maintenance is cheaper overall, since diesel engines have fewer problems than gas engines; but diesels are more expensive when they need repairs. Diesel maintenance generally will not cost you more than for a gasoline powered version, depending upon the type of diesel car that you have.

How often do diesels need oil changes?

Complete oil, filter, and lube should be performed at the 7,500-mile mark. Most car engines, in addition to diesel engines, carry recommendations of an oil change every 7,500 miles or at a minimum of every year.

Why is diesel oil so black?

Why is my Diesel Oil Black? So when your mechanic changes the oil in your car, the golden amber liquid is quickly darkened by the residual oil and carbon build-up in the engine. That change in colour is a sign that the oil is actually doing its job.

Does diesel car need to be driven daily?

Need to be driven daily, else maintenance becomes high

Modern diesel cars do not need constant attention. You can use it when you need to. Else you can park it safely without worrying about the parts becoming jammed. Earlier, it was a fact that diesel cars needed to be run more often than petrol vehicles.

How many miles can a turbo diesel last?

What makes diesel engines work so well and last so long? It’s normal for your car’s gasoline engine to run for around 200,000 miles before it needs a serious overhaul, or you need a new vehicle. But diesel engines can continuously run for an impressive 1,000,000-1,500,000 miles before needing any major work.

Is 200k miles alot for a diesel?

According to Prosource Diesel, anything over 350,000-miles is considered high mileage for a used diesel pickup with a Cummins or Duramax engine under its hood. Anything over 350,000-miles is also regarded as high mileage for a Powerstroke diesel engine.

Is 100k high mileage for a diesel?

Diesel pickup trucks often get higher mileage than gas trucks thanks to having more durable engines that can withstand higher compression ratios. Even when used extensively for towing and hauling, Powerstroke, Cummins and Duramax diesel trucks typically last well beyond 100,000 miles.
