Martino left his position as manager of Mexico after the country’s early elimination from the 2022 World Cup. ESPN reports that Cocca will soon be named the team’s next manager by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).
The 51-year-old Argentine Cocca, who has previously coached in Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina but never at the international level, will take over as El Tri’s next coach.
With Racing, Cocca earned his first league championship as a manager in 2014, but Atlas was the subject of his most fruitful managerial tenure.
The Argentine was crowned best manager in 2021 and 2022 and won back-to-back Liga MX championships in the 2021 Apertura and 2022 Clausura.
After five solid games, Cocca, who joined Tigres for Clausura 2023, has the squad in third position overall.
