The Jonas Brothers are an American pop-rock band. Formed in 2005, they gained popularity from their appearances on the Disney Channel television network. They consist of three brothers: Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas.
They starred in the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and its 2010 sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. They also starred in their own Disney Channel series Jonas, which was rebranded as Jonas L.A. for its second season.
The band have released five albums: It’s About Time (2006), Jonas Brothers (2007), A Little Bit Longer (2008), Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009), and Happiness Begins (2019).
In 2008, the group was nominated for the Best New Artist award at the 51st Grammy Awards and won the award for Breakthrough Artist at the American Music Awards.
Six years following their split, the group reunited with the release of “Sucker” on March 1, 2019. The song became the 34th song in history to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the Jonas Brothers’ first number-one single on the chart.
Did the Jonas Brothers get discovered in a barber shop?
As per US Weekly’s profile of the Jonas Brothers, Nick has been discovered while singing at a local barbershop in 1999, at the age of seven.
This led to a limited release of his first record in 2004 with Joe and Kevin helping in writing his songs. Then, in 2005, Jonas Brothers signed a deal with Columbia Records while in 2007, their album Jonas Brothers debuted at No. 5 on Billboard 200.
The rest as they say is history! During a 2014 appearance on Rolling Stone’s Journey, when Jonas Brothers had sadly disbanded, Nick shared candidly about how he got his big break in an unconventional manner.
“I found myself in a hair salon with my mom, singing, as I did. Someone heard me and said to my mom, ‘You should take your son to see this manager,’” the 28-year-old singer recalled.
Interestingly, Nick had been performing on Broadway since the tender age of seven while describing his ‘seven-year-old self,’ to The Guardian in a 2019 Jonas Brothers interview, as “incredibly driven and focused and not very fun to be around.”
