The famous chewy candy Mike and Ike had once split a decade ago. Are they splitting up again? Or like, in 2012, it’s their marketing strategy?
There are famous partnerships in every sector, and in the world of candies, none come close to Mike and Ike. The oblong-shaped fruit-flavored sweets are the favorites of millions of people around the globe.
The candy company, which first came into operation in 1940, still has a special place in the hearts of their consumer. The company famously generated the most revenue in its 73 years of history in the year they had split, so it might be time to do it again.
Did Mike And Ike Break Up? Details On The Split
In 2012, the candy kings Mike and Ike had gone their separate ways, but it doesn’t look like they have any plans to do that right now.
The famous American candy brand is not splitting up and will continue to stay together, but I mean, in the infamous world of candy, nothing can be sure, right?
The spicy flavored candies in 2012 had a breakup that was more scandalous than Brangelina’s split. From basketball player Lamar Odom to some of the big names in Hollywood, everybody was talking about it. Lamar Odom said he was devastated when he heard about the split between Ben and Ike.
The duo, as they said, had creative differences. Mike was spending too much time on music, and Ike was spending too much time on his graffiti arts. The packages were being sold with each other’s names crossed. Billboards began to appear with a painter painting over either Mike or Ike.
But after a year-long “divorce”, as many said, Mike and Ike sorted out their differences and were back together. Many celebrated their reunion, and the company posted a YouTube video about their patch-up.
After their reunion, the company released a new variety of candy called Strawberry union. $15 million was spent on marketing Mike and Ike’s split. And higher the money spent on marketing higher the revenue for that year.
Are Mike And Ike Vegan?
The jury is still out on whether Mike and Ike are vegan. First, let’s know the reasons why they aren’t vegan products.
The ingredients of Mike and Ike contain confectioner glaze in an enormous amount, making it look shiny. So some strict vegans consider it a non-vegan product as the shellac resin comes from an animal as a by-product.
Another reason is the use of sugar cane. Sugar cane is plant-based, but when it is manufactured, bone char is used, which comes from animal bones. Similarly, it has many other ingredients which make strict vegans not eat the candy.
But there are reasons why some vegans consume Mike and Ike without any hesitation.
Mike and Ike do not contain any eggs, and the candy does not use gelatin derived commercially.
The famous candy brand does not use the beetle-based red 4 to dye it red. So all you vegans can have a field day with the packets of Mike and Ike.
