Melanie Lynskey’s weight gain was caused by her eating issue and thyroid problem. Both of which appear to have been mitigated as she looked flawless in her red gown at the EI Capital Theater on Monday.
Melanie Lynskey attended the debut of her Hulu series Candy at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Monday with her husband, Jason Ritter.
The 45-year-old New Zealander looked stunning in a cleavage-enhancing red dress with ruffled sleeves, a gold handbag, and silver peep-toe shoes.
Melanie Lynskey Weight Gain: Did She Gain Weight For “Candy”?
Melanie Lynskey may have acquired weight for Candy since her character, Betty, was a pregnant overweight lady in the film. Moreover, she also told People about her eating disorder and Thyroid which increased her weight in 2016.
“I was sick for a long time. I was having eating problems and thinking to myself, “I’m not going to live”. not like I was dying or anything, but I was miserable and my hair was coming out,” said Lynskey.
She eventually came to terms with her physique. “I was simply thinking, ‘I just need to look the way I’m supposed to look,’ and have confidence that people will want to cast someone who looks like this in a film or on a program,” she adds.
“That’s the thing that keeps me going sometimes as a woman who has a different form than a lot of ladies on television,” she explains. “It’s quite difficult to put yourself out there and say, ‘You know what, this is how I look.’
“I have thyroid problems and have gained 20 pounds.”
Though the director at Candy embraces the way she was and cast the role. A crew member on the set of Yellowjackets suggested she lose weight.
However, her husband, Jason Ritter, recently defended her from internet trolls ridiculing her weight, telling them they might “swan dive right into the sun.”
Lynskey stated that she did not want to diet for the program because she wanted her character Shauna to seem like a genuine lady rather than a Hollywood version.
“I thought it was crucial that this character be just comfortable and sexual without thinking or talking about it. I want women to be able to watch it and think to themselves, “Wow, she looks like me and no one is saying she’s the overweight one.”
That’s a significant representation,” she stated. And she did film the YellowJackets without compromising her diet and viewers loved her.
