Did Judith Durham Have A Stroke? Singer’s Illness Update As Death Cause Linked With Bronchiectasis

Judith Durham, an Australian musician, best known as the lead singer of the folk band The Seekers, passed away at the age of 79.

Her band, with classics like I’ll Never Find Another You, I Am Australian, and Georgy Girl, sold more than 50 million copies. But in 1968, she quit the group to go solo and later released several studio albums.

Following her death, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Durham, referring to her as “a national treasure.”

In a statement posted on social media, he said, “Judith Durham gave voice to a fresh thread of our identity and helped pave the way for a new generation of Aussie artists.” Many people will miss her compassion, and the anthems she wrote for our country will never be forgotten.

Singer Judith Durham Suffered Stroke That Diminished Her Ability

Judith Durham endured a stroke in May 2013 while on the Seekers’ Golden Jubilee tour, which affected her ability to read and write the visual language and musical notation.

During her recovery, she made strides toward regaining such abilities. The stroke did not affect her ability to sing.

In 2013, The Daily Telegraph published an article about Judith’s recovery from a stroke following her concert in Melbourne.

Graham Simpson, manager of Durham, provided fans with updates on the singer’s condition and claims that she was in high spirits and eager to take on the challenge of recovery.

He said: “I’m happy to be able to let you know that Judith will be transferred to the unit on Friday for additional treatment after being assessed yesterday (Tuesday) by the head of the Rehabilitation Unit at Epworth Hospital.”

Further, Durham sustained a cerebral hemorrhage and was subsequently hospitalized in a Melbourne hospital in May 2013.

Judith Died From Chronic Lung Illness Called Bronchiectasis At Age 79

Per her Wikipedia, Judith Durham passed away at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on August 5, 2022, due to complications from bronchiectasis, a persistent lung condition. She was admitted to the hospital that day.

However, how long she was afflicted with the condition is still unclear.

In an emotional statement on Saturday, George Ash, President of Universal Music Australia and New Zealand, praised the late singer-songwriter as tributes poured in for the adored performer.

He remarked, “Judith Durham was no exception. Great artists become a part of our fabric and our extended family.”

Her Late Husband Ron Edgeworth’s Death In 1994

From 1969 through 1994, Judith Durham was united in marriage to her husband, a British pianist Ron Edgeworth for 35 years.

IMDb states that he served as her musical director and was a composer and actor best known for the films Cash and Company (1975) and Raw Deal (1977).

They were married at Scots’ Church in Melbourne and resided there until the middle of the 1980s before relocating to Nambour, Queensland.

On December 10, 1994, with Judith by his side, he sadly passed away from motor neuron disease. After his death, Judith didn’t remarry; instead, she decided to live with his memories.

Besides, knowing that Ron was still on his spiritual path gave Judith peace because she believed in karma and rebirth.

“She doesn’t try to limit him in this world,” she says. Per her website, “She preserves warm and happy memories and thanks for their incredible marriage, which nourish and comfort her always.

In contrast, the official website for The Seekers states that Judith and her late husband Ron decided not to have kids.

Durham’s Net Worth In Hype Since Her Musical Career

Durham has accumulated a sizeable net worth from her successful profession over 60 years. Although the singer’s current net worth is being assessed, it is safe to presume that she has amassed millions of dollars.

Throughout her illustrious career, Durham received numerous honors, including the Centenary Medal in 2003 and the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for contributions to music in 1995.

In 2015, she was also recognized as the Victorian of the Year.

The trio officially broke up a year after sharing the Australian of the Year award in 1967; however, they later came back together to play several times, with the most recent performance taking place in 2014.
