Jimbo Fisher termed Nick Saban’s statements reprehensible and stated that he is no longer working with the Crimson Tide’s head coach. Fisher, on the other hand, was coached by Saban for four years.
This is the second offseason in a queue that the two coaches and former LSU comrades have traded verbal punches.
While Nick Saban, 70, was still coaching, Jimbo Fisher predicted that Texas A&M would upset Alabama. Soon after, Saban responded by asking whether Fisher meant he would defeat him in golf.
On Oct. 9, the Aggies delivered on Fisher’s promise, defeating the then-No. 1 Crimson Tide 41-38, making Fisher the first of Saban’s former coordinators to defeat him in a head-to-head game.
What started out as a lighthearted discussion has escalated into something considerably more intense and personal.
Did Jimbo Fisher Coach Under Nick Saban?
Jimbo Fisher, who coached under Nick Saban at LSU from 2000 to 2004, claimed the Alabama coach had attempted to contact him after Wednesday’s comments but that he wasn’t taking any calls from him.
He said, “We’re done,” when questioned about their relationship.
Additionally, Fisher continued by stating that Saban had breached college football regulations in the past, pushing the media to investigate and question the Alabama coach’s previous staff.
Furthermore, he went on to reconfirm his honesty while casting doubt on Saban’s, even challenging the Alabama head coach’s background.
Jimbo Fisher Controversy Explained
Saban fueled the fires of controversy on Wednesday night when he stated Texas A&M bought every player in their No. 1 recruiting class while speaking at a fundraiser.
Fisher retaliated with a furious press conference on Thursday morning, describing Saban as a narcissist and his statements as “despicable.”
Last year, Alabama athletes earned $3 million “doing it the right way,” according to Saban, while just 25 players were able to take advantage of NIL chances.
Jimbo Fisher Rips Nick Saban’s NIL Cheating Accusations
To be honest, Saban and Fisher have a history together, but it was evident at Fisher’s news conference that Saban’s claim that the Aggies program had been cheating was personally insulting to him.
Likewise, Fisher also went on the attack, saying that Saban’s charges of cheating are a result of his imagination.
It’s amazing that tensions haven’t erupted in such a public way after they’ve both lived in the SEC for several years.
Reportedly, given the changing nature of the sport and the rivalry between the two schools on the field and in recruiting, that tension may become the new normal in the SEC for as long as Saban and Fisher are in charge.
