Did Jennifer Hudson lose custody of her child?

In a recent legal development, renowned singer Jennifer Hudson and her ex-partner David Otunga have reportedly reached a new custody agreement for their 9-year-old son, David Otunga Jr. While the agreement ostensibly promotes equal custody, it also comes with a set of stringent terms that have raised eyebrows.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the custody deal involves a dynamic arrangement where Hudson and Otunga exchange schedules every two months, proposing and finalizing a plan for the subsequent two months. The primary objective is to achieve a 50/50 custody arrangement.

The agreement outlines specific terms, emphasizing joint responsibility for important decisions related to their son. Hudson will reportedly contribute an undisclosed amount in child support. However, the most contentious stipulation prohibits either parent from having a romantic guest spend the night unless they are in a “serious, committed relationship,” and strictly prohibits overnight guests of a romantic or dating nature during parenting time.

Furthermore, the agreement mandates joint decisions on the choice of public school, homework assistance, and restricts the child from being taken out of school without prior notice. Both parties have concurred that their son will be raised in the Christian faith.

The recent accord follows a lengthy legal battle that dates back to 2017 when Hudson filed for an emergency order of protection, alleging that Otunga had pushed her while holding their son. Although the court granted a temporary order, Hudson later withdrew the petition. Otunga consistently denied the allegations, leading to a protracted legal dispute with both parties accusing each other of playing legal games.

The latest agreement, reached after seven hours behind closed doors earlier this month, marks the end of their contentious court battle. However, the preceding legal skirmishes were marked by accusations and counter-accusations, with Hudson expressing concerns about the safety and consistency of Otunga’s parenting environment.

Hudson contested the idea of supporting Otunga’s housing costs, asserting that he could afford a home if he actively sought employment. She argued against treating him as someone who has given birth to a child and has no means of supporting the child, emphasizing her role as the birth mother.

The custody battle even involved Otunga subpoenaing Jennifer’s sister, Julie, for a deposition. Disputes over school bus stops and the choice of school further added complexity to their legal wrangling.

While the newly minted agreement may have brought a temporary end to the publicized legal feud, the contentious nature of their custody arrangement continues to generate speculation and debate surrounding the personal lives of these two public figures.
