Did Deandre Hopkins Sign With The Titans?

Deandre Hopkins officially signed with the Titans for the 2023 season. The wide receiver chose Tennessee over the Patriots, Cowboys, and Chiefs.

The 31-year-old was rated one of the top free agents available on the market and received his first free-agent approach from the team in June. Though the receiver completed his visit and returned without signing a contract, he has finally decided to catch the passes for the team.

The football team of Nashville did make a deliberate effort in bringing in the pro WR during the visit arranging for him a suite at Nissan Stadium for the Country Music Association Festival. But it looked like D Hop needed time to reconsider the available options.

The mammoth contract and incentives being provided by the team and his good connections with some of the coaching staff, like Mike Vrabel, Team Kelly, etc., are considered to be driving factors in pulling the player toward the music city.

Arizona Cardinals released the three-time First-Team All-Pro receiver on May 26, 2023, after they failed to trade him with any other player from other teams. Since then, the star pass catcher has been an active free agent.

Deandre Hopkins Titans Contract Breakdown

Deandre Hopkins Titan’s contract is a two-year agreement worth $26 million. The deal will be signed soon in the earlier days of the coming week.

Given the primary value as per initial commitment, the pro wide receiver would receive up to $32 million including incentives. The inducement is expected to be $3 million each season.

Hopkins’s base salary will amount to $12 million for the year. But the WR will be raking in $13 million as an average annual value.

If all of the bonus conditions are met, he could make up to $15-16 million per year. The cap hit and dead caps will be released prior to the signing of the contract.

The arrangement marking the receiver’s entry into the team is quite unique. His bonus as per his progress in the number of receiving yards, receptions, and receiving touchdowns will amount to $1 million. Let’s look at the system of his payroll below:

  • If he will get 65 receptions the amount will be $250,000. Similarly, Hops will be paid $500,000 for 75 receptions, $750,000 for 85 receptions, and ultimately $1 million for 95 receptions.
  • Likewise, for 750 receiving yards the player will get $250,000, $500,000 for 850 receiving yards, $750,000 for 950 receiving yards, and $1 million for 1050 yards.
  • Also, $250,000 for getting four touchdowns, six touchdowns will bring him $500,000, $750,000 for eight, and $1 million for 10 TDs.

A rumored question “Did Deandre Hopkins sign with the Chiefs?” hit the internet before the news broke out. The answer is a big NO.

Although the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots were taken as a possible fit for the excellent receiver, he chose the Titans overall. The WR did pay a visit to the Patriots but did not sign with them.

Deandre Hopkins Titans Jersey Number

Deandre Hopkins Titans jersey number is not released yet as the star receiver still has a deal to sign. The catcher wore No. 10 with the Cardinals.

The pro player is already placed on the team’s chart but is still to be assigned his official Jersey number. There are several options to be considered including 19, 10, 82, 14, 18, 12, etc. It would be too early to predict the single one as they can be reassigned after the completion of the agreement.

The All-Pro receiver has not put on many digits in the past years but rather stuck with only one. The player has always gone with the No. 10 in the previous seven seasons with the Houston Texans and three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

The 31-year-old WR has been picking up the same numeral entire his NFL career didn’t mean not wanting some changes. Following the jersey rule in 2021 which allowed all positions to wear single digits except for defensive and offensive linemen, Hopkins did hint at a change to No. 6 through his Instagram. This was back in April of 2021.

The number was the receiver’s college day football uniform mark when playing for the football team of Clemson. But he continued with the 10.

It is still unclear which number D Hops will be wearing this season but it is likely that he can come up with the same past digit given by the team’s strong will to commemorate the WR in the group desperately. The team in Tennessee could probably give him anything he demands if we sit on the present scenario.
