Brittany Murphy debuted in Hollywood at the age of thirteen, playing Brenda Drexell in Drexell’s Class and Molly Morgan in Almost Home. She also had recurrent parts on Party of Five, Boy Meets World, and Sister, Sister, as well as guest appearances on Blossom, Frasier, and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.
Her breakout performance, however, came in the cult classic Clueless, directed by Amy Heckerling, in 1995. She later appeared in films such as Freeway, Girl, Interrupted, Don’t Say a Word, 8 Mile, and Sin City.
Murphy was a musician in addition to an actor. She created Blessed Soul with actor Eric Balfour in the 1990s and released a single named “Faster Kill Pussycat” with Paul Oakenfold in 2006, which topped Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart.
She also sang renditions of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland” in the animated film Happy Feet, in which she also as Gloria Penguin.
Murphy died in 2009, at the age of 32, after finishing the thriller/drama Abandoned. Something Wicked, her final film, was released in 2014.
