Allen and Brenda got married on April 22, 1982, and their daughter Erica was born almost exactly a year later. From the beginning, Brenda had a tense relationship with Allen’s brothers, Ron and Dan. She even prevented Allen from joining the School of the Prophets with his siblings.
In late 1984, Allen Lafferty returned home from a construction job to find a gruesome murder scene that haunts him. Brenda Lafferty, his wife, lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor, and their 15-month-old daughter, Erica, were found dead in her crib.
When police arrived, he was found praying next to her wife. They arrested Allen as a suspect in his wife and daughter’s murder, but no evidence was found against him. Later Allen pointed out that his brother Ron Lafferty was the real murderer.
Allen was right about his brother. Ron murdered his wife alongside his brother Dan.
Ron and Dan showed no remorse for their actions, believing the murders to be righteous and wilded by the god. However, according to Deseret News, Allen never mentioned the murder to Dan.
The horrific Lafferty murders were the real inspiration behind the Hulu show “Under the Banner of Heaven.”

Allen Lafferty remarried in 2015 to his new wife Heidi Lafferty. He grieved the loss of his beloved wife and daughter for a long time but eventually moved on.
Allen supposedly started a new family with Heidi. As per Heidi’s Facebook post, Allen and Heidi have known each other for over a decade. The couple tied the knot together in May 2014 after dating for three years.
The couple has settled down in Saratoga Springs, Utah. As if 2015. Allen and Heidi don’t have any kids yet.
They also became members of the Latter Day Saints church in 2015. Allen mentioned coming to the temple regularly, mainly while dealing with personal or familial concerns with his wife.
