After Marty Callner saw Alicia Silverstone in the movie The Crush, he decided she should be the face of the hit song “Cryin’” by Aerosmith. She was thus picked to take part in the “Amazing” and “Crazy” Aerosmith music videos.
Her three music videos made her a household name and helped her get the role of Cher Horowitz in the wildly successful adolescent comedy Clueless (1995), a snobby but charming teenager from Beverly Hills.
As a result of the critically and commercially successful film, which also earned her multiple awards for her performance, she signed a multi-million dollar contract with Columbia Pictures.
Silverstone kept acting after Clueless, appearing in movies and television. She was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2003 for Best Actress – Television Sitcom Musical or Comedy for her work in the NBC sitcom Miss Match.
She has produced two cookbooks, The Kind Diet in 2009 and The Kind Mama in 2014, and has been an outspoken advocate for veganism and animal rights.
In addition to her impressive entertainment career, Silverstone is highly recognized for her upbringing and private life.
Her father was born into a Jewish family, whereas her mother converted to Conservative Judaism before they were married. Silverstone attended her Bat Mitzvah and has been outspoken about her Jewish heritage.
Did Alicia Silverstone retire from acting?
Yes, after signing a lucrative movie deal and making an appearance in the critically panned comic book hit “Batman and Robin,” Alicia says she was no longer having fun and had made the decision to leave Hollywood by the end of the 1990s.
What does Alicia Silverstone do now for a living?
A generation removed from Clueless and at 46 years old, Silverstone claims to be “doing life right.” Being an activist, a mother, and an actress at the same time is difficult. I’m doing my best, though,” she adds. Speaking about the environment and health is something I continue to do since it is so important to me.
