As things stood, there was a strong attraction between the duo, who soon began a relationship. At this point, Brenda Harvey, Richie’s college sweetheart, was still in the picture – they were still married although separated.
It was in 1988 that everything behind Richie’s friend and college wife, Brenda Harvey became common knowledge. She called at the Beverly Hills Hotel where Lionel Richie and Diane Alexander were staying in a room, pretending to serve as room service. Upon entering the bedroom and watching the scene, she jumped on her cheating husband before being restrained and arrested.
Brenda was arrested on the grounds of trespassing, domestic violence and vandalism. However, all charges would later be dropped. Their supposed marriage lasted until 1993 when they finally divorced after 17 years of marriage.
With Brenda out of the picture, Diane Alexander had Lionel Richie all to herself. The duo had their first child on May 27, 1994, a baby named Miles Brockman Richie.
