Shortly after 4 o’clock local time on April 20, the judge read out the jury’s verdict. Chauvin was later seen being escorted from the court in handcuffs as a result of the announcement.

Further, Chauvin was given a sentence of 22 1/2 years in jail on June 25, 2021.

Derek Chauvin Concurrent Prison Sentence Of 22 Years

In December, Chauvin, 46, entered a guilty plea to several federal civil rights offenses. He already has a 22-year state jail term for the on-the-job murder of Mr. Floyd, a black man in his 40s.

Chauvin has been transferred to a federal prison, where the two terms will run simultaneously. But after the verdict, he’ll almost definitely do extra time in jail. After serving his term, he will be released under supervision for five years.

Floyd’s brother, Philonese, pleaded with the judge to impose the maximum punishment of 25 years on Thursday, saying, “George’s life matters.”

Paul Magnuson, a senior US District Court judge, gave Chauvin a 252-month sentence but deducted seven months for time served.

Attorneys for the US argued before the court that Chauvin’s sentence should run concurrently with his 22.5-year state sentence.
