Denver Broncos Helmet History

Broncos helmets have been evolving with time and have taken various colors and designs to fit the expectation of the team and the fans since 1960.

The players wore a brown helmet during the 1960-61 season. And also in the throwback game of 2009.  After that in 1962 it was changed to orange color with a blue Bronco horse logo on it.

From 1962 to 1965, only the logo color was changed to white others remained the same.

In 1966, the eye of the horse in the logo was painted orange and given a navy blue outline. The Year 1967 commenced with an utterly blue-colored helmet followed by the “D” logo with the horse steaming from the mouth from 1968 to 1974.

The season of 1975 to 1996 was marked by the same color helmet with its metal mask modified into a curve structure. After that, in 1997, the current signature helmet was designed and has not changed in the last 26 years.

Denver Broncos Logo History

Broncos latest logo dates back to 1997, the last time it was revised. Its consistent modification began in 1960 when the team was formed.

Since its origin, the Denver Broncos logo has never missed the Bronco horse, which is challenging to ride on. Thus, it symbolizes the team’s wild character and warrior spirit. The animal intensely depicts the team’s strength, courage, and wilderness.

The evolution of the Broncos emblem, along with its design description, has been presented below:

From 1960 To 1961

The team’s first logo was created in 1960 and included a football player of the Broncos riding on a horse. The player was on a brown jersey with a yellow helmet and was in a very cheerful mood.

The horse had a brown outline with a yellow color inside. The man had a bold B letter on his T-shirt and sat quietly.

The logo might have symbolized no matter how wild the game might get like the “Bronco horse”, the players will always have it under control.

From 1962 To 1967

After staying a year with their first sign, they decided to give it a more ferocious look. This time they made the footballer stand on the horse’s top with an orange costume and an orange ball in one hand.

Both were presented in aggressive and brutal appearances to project the team’s mindset.

From 1968 to 1992

The Broncos logo witnessed a more significant shift in 1968 as the rider was utterly removed from it. The symbol now had the Capital letter “D” in red with the horse emerging.

The space inside the letter was painted blue to provide a matching contrast to the white horse outlined in black and had steam coming out of its nose. The team moved with the emblem for 30 years.

From 1993 to 1996

It was simply a recreation of the 1968 logo, where the red color of the letter “D” was changed to orange, and the black outline of the horse was made blue.

The extra lines on the steam coming out of the horse’s nose were removed and bordered in black and made colored white. The logo signified an elicited sense of fierce and determination.

From 1997 to the Present

The logo at present times consists of an aggressive horse that is facing in the right direction. It has a dark blue outline with orange eyes and an orange mane. The mane depicts the burning spirit of the team.

Unlike other logos in the past, it has a wordmark under it with a nameplate that says “BRONCOS” in blue and a “DENVER” tagline in orange under the main inscription.

The logo represents the team’s power, lightning spirit, and strong willpower.

Denver Broncos Throwback Jersey

Denver Broncos throwback uniform was introduced thrice in history, first in 1994, second in 2001, and another in 2009.

The introduction of the first retrogress resembled the Broncos’ 1965-1966 reddish-orange uniform. The T-shirt was orange colored with two small white stripes and one sizeable blue strap on the sleeves.

It was only worn once that season, with the orange helmet having a white horse on it. That year was the commemoration of the NFL’s 75th anniversary. The team brought back their mid-1960s uniform to celebrate the big day.

The throwback worn in 1994 represented the Mac Speedie era.

Another throwback to the 1980-1988 costume was made in 2001. It was the orange crush uniform with television numbers moved to the shoulder. It also had blue and white stripes on the sleeves.

They put on the uniform with the blue helmet with a thin stripe of orange bordered by white and the “D” logo. The pant was white with a long orange patch on the side outlined by navy blue. It was the Thanksgiving throwback game at the Cowboys. The game was played on November 22, 2001.

The team came up with its third throwback in 2009, which resembled the infamous 1960s cardigan. It was yellow with the number written in brown.

It went with the brown helmet of the same year with a white line on the top. The pant was brown with yellow lines to the feet end. The players included brown-yellow stripped socks to go with it.

The match was played against the Patriots with a 4-0 win. The outfit of the game was termed a “horrendous throwback” by the people.

Among all these, the fans primarily appreciated the first two and were thoughtful decisions. Many questioned the team’s decision to return to AFL days jersey against the Patriots.

Besides, the Broncos are for sure working on the design of the new or at least revised uniforms. Denver sent a poll email to the season ticket purchaser, asking them to vote their ideas regarding the team’s future on-field outfits.

This might be an active signal of the Broncos’ intention about the potential new costume modifications. After some time of the poll, the president leech gave a clue update on Twitter about designer teams working on the Denver Broncos’ new uniform.

Many fans want the team to return with the “D” letter logo this time. They have already started guessing the looks:

The date of the reveal of the new designs is not published yet, not guaranteed. But they are doing their homework for the release after all.
