Davis Bertans, an NBA player for the Dallas Mavericks, is a professional basketball player from Latvia. He represents the Latvian national team and is referred to as the “Latvian Laser.” The Indiana Pacers selected him with the 42nd overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
In a three-team trade that involved the Brooklyn Nets in July 2019, Bertans was sent from the San Antonio Spurs to the Washington Wizards. His first game with the Wizards saw him score 23 points and make six three-pointers against the Charlotte Hornets, giving him an outstanding start.
Bertans made the decision to withdraw from the NBA’s return in Orlando in June 2020 for personal reasons. Since he had previously sustained ACL problems, he wanted to take precautions as he entered free agency. The Wizards backed his choice, and as was predicted, they were eliminated from the playoffs.
In November 2020, Bertans agreed to a five-year, $80 million contract with the Wizards. He recorded a career-high 35 points in a game against the Denver Nuggets in February 2021, shooting nine three-pointers in the process. Later, in February 2022, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a transaction including Kristaps Porziis.
