David Sanborn Height: How tall is David Sanborn?

David Sanborn made a major appearance on the track “Tuesday Heartbreak” from Stevie Wonder’s 1972 album “Talking Book.”

In addition, his collaboration with David Bowie on the album “Young Americans” and his participation in James Taylor’s song “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” on the album “Gorilla” launched his alto saxophone skills into the popular music arena.

Sanborn became involved in the popular jazz fusion movement in the mid-1970s by joining the Brecker Brothers band, where he was inspired by fellow saxophonist Michael Brecker.

During this time, Sanborn released his first solo album, “Taking Off,” which is now regarded as a jazz/funk masterpiece.

Despite his reputation with smooth jazz, Sanborn’s musical background included free jazz studies under the tutelage of saxophonists Roscoe Mitchell and Julius Hemphill during his early years.

He returned to this genre in 1993, when he appeared on Tim Berne’s album “Diminutive Mysteries,” which was dedicated to Hemphill. Sanborn’s CD “Another Hand” also featured collaborations with avant-garde artists.

Sanborn and Al Jarreau charmed audiences with two sold-out concerts at Atlanta’s Chastain Park in 1985.
