Born in 1967 in Nigeria to a Nigerian father and a British mother, she is just 3 years older than her brother. At 8, she and her brother migrated to the UK with their mother and grew up in Tyne and Wear.

As a non-white person living in the UK, it was tough for her to grow up there, so they had to leave that place and move on. Yinka had a tough time growing up early as racism in the UK was very high.

Having all those difficulties, Yinka completed her study for her future. Now she is teaching people about Culture and Childhood.

Yinka mainly focuses on the social construction of children and childhood in educational policy, political debate, art, and popular culture in the present and the past.

She teaches undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students about childhood studies, education studies, and initial teacher education. She is currently a BA Education, Culture, and Childhood Co-Director.

Their Parents Are From Two Different Countries

David Olusoga was born in Lagos to a father from Nigeria and a mother from England. Both were students at Newcastle at that time.

After many years of marriage, they separated, and her mother went to the UK. At that time, the author was only 2 years old, and his mother had to work as a linguist.

According to David, he has other 3 siblings, including Yinki Olusoga. At that time, racism in the UK was at its peak stage. His mother had a difficult time growing her 4 children at that time because of the people in their surroundings.

At 14, his family moved to another city due to one incident. Some people around their neighbors threw bricks wrapped up on a note telling them to return to Africa at his house.

They had to forget that incident and move on with their life. He also said that his mother pushed them hard to succeed at school and in life.
