David Martin Biography
David Martin is an American television news correspondent, journalist, and author known for working as CBS News National Security Correspondent. He is working as the National Security Correspondent of the Pentagon’s network
He studied and graduated from Yale University in 1965 with a degree in English. He served as a naval officer during the Vietnam War.

In 1969, he began his career at CBS News as a researcher. In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked at Newsweek Magazine and the Associated Press. In 1983, he became CBS News Pentagon correspondent. Since 1993, he works as the network’s National Security Correspondent reporting from The Pentagon, a position he has held. He has contributed reports to the CBS Evening News, 48 Hours and 60 Minutes.
Prior to that, he had reported topics of security and intelligence from his Washington office (1977-83) for Newsweek magazine. Martin was a reporter with the Washington Associated Press (1973-77), covering both the FBI and the CIA. He was also a member of the special assignment team at AP (1977).
During the invasion of Afghanistan and the war in Iraq, he was positioned as the “big picture” reporter for CBS News by Martin’s in-depth knowledge of how the State Department, intelligence community and military operate on the battlefield as well as in Washington. He explained using his own sources and reports from CBS News correspondents in the region and around the world.
Martin had broken down many significant stories before and after the Iraq war. He was the first to announce on the war’s opening night, that the U.S. conducted a raid on a palace base in southern Baghdad in an effort to drive Saddam Hussein out. Martin also told the story of the “shock and awe” policy of the military for their initial attack at Baghdad. He was the first journalist to visit and report on Dora Farms during a trip to Iraq in May 2003, where the CIA had said Saddam was hiding on the opening night of the war.
