David Keith Lynch, an American filmmaker, actor, and visual artist was born on January 20, 1946.
Lynch, who won an honorary Academy Award in 2019, has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Director and has won the Palme d’Or and a Golden Lion at the Cannes Film Festival.
It was stated in 2007 by a group of critics assembled by The Guardian that “after all the discussion, no one could fault the conclusion that David Lynch is the most important filmmaker of the current era”.
He was referred to by AllMovie as “the Renaissance man of modern American filmmaking” in the same year.
Pauline Kael, a film critic, referred to him as “the first populist surrealist” because of his work.
