Sir David John White OBE is the birth name of English actor David Jason. He made his stage debut in the farce No Sex Please, We’re British in the West End in 1973, when he started his acting career.
He also appeared with Valerie Leon in the 1975 touring production of the stage comedy “Darling Mr. London.” Ronnie Barker was drawn to Jason’s performances in variety shows as a support act for Dick Emery.
As a result, he was hired to play the 100-year-old gardener Dithers opposite Barker’s Lord Rustless in the play Hark at Barker (LWT, 1969). His Lordship Entertains is the follow-up to the program that was produced for the BBC in 1972.
Jason portrayed Granville, an idealistic employee, in the comedy anthology Seven of One’s inaugural episode, Open All Hours (1973). (BBC). Barker portrayed the sourpuss owner of a corner shop.
Jason kept acting alongside Barker in numerous programs like Porridge (BBC), where he appeared in three episodes as the elderly character Blanco. In The Two Ronnies, he also made an appearance alongside Barker, portraying various disguises and even providing the “raspberry” sound effect for The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town.
Four series of the popular show Open All Hours were produced between 1976 and 1985. David Jason made a significant impact on British comedy and his acting career.
