Raith Rovers Signs David Goodwillie- Denise Clair Abuse and Rape Case Discussed

Raith Rover had announced that they were signing David Goodwillie, who previously abused Denise Clair. The incident dates back to 2011.

The victim stated that she went out for a drink with a friend on New Year’s Day in 2011. But she had no recall of leaving the pub and going to a nightclub in Bathgate.

In addition, many witnesses said that she ‘wanted to go home because she couldn’t stand up straight or talk correctly. However, the next morning, Ms. Clair said she found herself without any clothes and in pain in an apartment in Greig Crescentin nearby Armadale.

Weeks after DNA evidence was collected from swabs taken from her; it was discovered that she had sexual intercourse with David Goodwillie that night.

Goodwillie acknowledged having had sexual relations but said it was mutual. On the other hand, the victim claimed that her alcohol use prevented her from freely consenting to intimacy. Thus, in January 2011, the player was arrested and accused of raping a woman.

Following the accusation, David was summoned before Livingston Sheriff Court. However, the charges were dropped after there was insufficient evidence to prosecute in a criminal court.

Later, Denise Clair sued the footballers in a civil action, waiving her legal right to anonymity. Therefore, in January 2017, details of the incident were heard in the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

The judge concluded in a civil court action in 2017 that Stirling’s David Goodwillie raped a 24-year-old woman at a residence in Armadale, West Lothian, in 2011 and asked them to pay £100,000 as compensation.
