David Crosby net worth: David Crosby is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who has a net worth of $5 million. He gained fame as a founding member of Crosby, Stills & Nash and as a member of the Byrds.
David Crosby was born on August 14, 1941 in Los Angeles. He is the son of Academy Award-winning cinematographer Floyd Crosby. David initially wanted to become an actor. His love for music prevailed and he soon started performing as a folksinger, playing in clubs and coffeehouses nationwide. In 1964 he joined the Byrds and would go on to earn massive commercial success thanks to songs like “Mr. Tambourine Man”. As a Byrds’ member, he helped create the signature electric folk-rock that influenced countless musicians to come. He was dismissed from the Byrds after joining Buffalo Springfield on stage at the Monterey Pop Festival. David subsequently formed Crosby, Stills and Nash with Stephen Still and Graham Nash. CSN won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1969 and would go on to sell tens of millions of albums worldwide.
David has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice; in 1991 with the Byrds and in 1997 with CSN. In addition to his numerous musical performances, successful writing and singing career, David has also made several guest appearances in TV shows and movies throughout the 1990s. However, his success was often overshadowed by his vices like alcohol and drugs. Throughout his turbulent life, he has had many long-term relationships, including with Christine Hinton, Debbie Donovan and Joni Mitchell.
David has been married to Jan Dance since 1987. He has several children including one who was born through artificial insemination for Melissa Etheridge and her then-partner Julie Cypher.
Financial Problems: In March 2015 David struck a jogger while driving his Tesla Model S. The jogger was left with a broken shoulder, arm, leg, ribs and kidney damage. He sued and David, alleging that the rocker was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (which was never proven conclusively). David was ultimately forced to pay a $3 million settlement
In March 2020, David told GQ magazine that the Coronavirus pandemic could potentially cause him serious financial harm if he is not able to tour:
“You know they don’t pay us for records anymore, right? So touring is all we got. That’s really the only thing that we can do to make any money. And to lose it is just awful. I may—honest to God—I may lose my home. I don’t know what to do about it, except just try to roll with the punches and keep going. Truthfully, if I lose the tours, I probably will lose my home.“
