Darius Scott is an American record producer, singer, songwriter, vocalist, and instrumentalist hailing from Atlanta Georgia. He is also into theater, dance and fashion growing and works as a freelance stylist. In 2018, he released his latest album titled YOUNG to much critical acclaim. He is also featured on Rapper Chance The Rapper‘s 2019 Album titled The Big Day on the song Zanies and Fools featuring Rapper Nicki Minaj.

The singer was born and raised in Atlanta by both of his parents. His father, Mr. Scott was a Church minister while his mum conducted the choir. Unfortunately, his father passed in early 2019.

The singer played sports in High school but somehow landed back in music. He was in drumline when he was in high school. Further, he went and studied abroad to graduate in a school for graphic design and worked in New York as a graphic designer for a fashion brand.

The young Songwriter had an interest in music at a young age. He adds that there are plenty of stories of him as a child playing the pots and pans under the sink, and just being really interested in music. His father was a deacon at a church – he was in training to become a minister. When Darius got into the 2nd grade his father had just gotten his first church, and so, we would be walking into this building, which was pretty empty, there were no drums or anything, but there was an organ.
His dad would buy him a piano and consecutively brought one of his drum sets from the house to my Dad’s church and became the church drummer. He hired my piano teacher at the time to be the organist at the church and them kind of built this band. His mother is musically inclined and his father asked him to perform a solo on “Oh, Holy Night” in church when he was young.
When he was about 6 or 7, his piano teacher passed away, and he ended up taking over the responsibility of playing the piano at his Dad’s church. His mom directed the youth choir. I kind of owe my independence as a musician to his father because he gave him so much responsibility early on. He had to step away from music for two years at one point because he was diagnosed with pericarditis, swelling around the heart.

In 2015, The singer auditioned for NBC’s The Voice with Usher’s “You Make Me Wanna.” Adam Levine turned midway through the performance; he was eventually joined by Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams. Pharrell was amazed and called him “super special;”
He defeated Daria Jazmin when he sang “Lean on Me.” He performed “Love Lockdown,” which landed at number 99 on the iTunes Top 200 and number four on the R&B/soul chart. He was eliminated when Madi Davis and Evan McKeel were voted into the finals and Mark Hood received the Team Pharrell save.
Darius Scott Masterpiece Album
We heard him talk on the show about his album. It’s a nine-song Christian/gospel effort called “Masterpiece” that was released on November 2014 and, according to his website, chronicles “the spiritual journey of a young man, challenged by the normative constructs of what is considered faith-based music.” On his Darius Dixson website, he writes that “Masterpiece” is designed as a musical PSA with this message: “It is okay to be Christian and keep your cool points. It is okay to be a Christina and still be seen in the world. Unlike before, you are seen as a light in the darkness. It’s the ‘something different’ factor. And it is marvelous, indeed.”

In February 2018, Darius Scott released YOUNG, a journey through the spiritual hills and valleys of a twenty-something-year-old, finding one’s true voice, and pushing beyond one’s perceived artistic limits. the album isn’t completely Christ-centered. It’s definitely my story – there isn’t a song on the record that isn’t about me or connected to me. It’s all real.
That’s what I think makes the album unique. Even the songs that sound like a fantasy-like SOCA – SOCA sounds like it’s a story about a fictional character, but it’s not. It’s about a real person in a red dress. I think great storytelling etiquette is including yourself in the song, so people don’t feel alienated by your story. I like the fact people are connecting with my real story. Two years prior, Scott was in training to become a minister, following in his father’s footsteps.
Darius Scott Tour 2019
On July 27th, The Producer, Singer, and Songwriter hope to give his audience an experience of religious proportions with his first live show tour. The first night is in Dallas, a city Darius has called home since 2014. Ironically this performance will take place on the first stage he made his Dallas debut. With the newly renovated RBC, the show will include visuals and incredible sound. The band consists of Dallas locals, and the show will contain all the music from the artist.
