After graduating from college, Tosh began touring the comedy club circuit almost immediately. He was one of the “New Faces” at Montreal’s Just for Laughs in 1998. His performance at the Théâtre Saint-Denis in Montreal was televised in 2000. Tosh’s big break came in 2001 when he appeared on David Letterman’s Late Show.

He appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, among other shows. He was a representative for Taco Bell in advertisements and hosted a late-night comedy program in Florida called Tens. Tosh has been on a number of radio shows, including The Bob and Tom Show, Loveline, and Kevin and Bean.

He has his own 30-minute show on Comedy Central Presents in 2003.

Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious, his stand-up special, aired on Comedy Central on June 17, 2007.

On Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, he hosted an episode.

Tosh played a thief who broke into Mekhi Phifer’s automobile in an episode of MTV’s Punk’d. He had a tiny role as Cowboy Hat in the feature film The Love Guru, starring Mike Myers, and he played a fake version of himself on HBO’s Runawaybox’s “Elevator.” Tosh says of his own acting talents, “I’m not a really talented performer.

I’m capable of portraying both myself and a much gayer version of myself. That’s the extent of my expertise.”

Tosh has previously stated that if he had not achieved success as a comedian by his 38th birthday, May 29, 2013, he intended to retire.

He stated that he would either commit suicide or retire to the beach to accomplish this. On his website, he maintained a countdown clock that displayed the number of days, minutes, and seconds until his 38th birthday, when “Daniel’s Groundhog Day Ends,” a reference to the Bill Murray classic.

Tosh has referred to a comic’s on-the-road performance as “Groundhog Day.” Daniel Tosh: Happy Thoughts, his Comedy Central special, premiered on March 6, 2011, to 3.25 million viewers and a 1.9/5 share.

Later, it was released on DVD.

Tosh was an executive producer for the Comedy Central animated sitcom Brickleberry and the voice of “Malloy” in the show. On January 7, 2015, the show was terminated after three seasons.

Tosh’s net worth was estimated at $11 million by Forbes in 2013, putting him in a tie for the ninth position among all top-earning comedians whose primary source of revenue is from stage ticket sales.

Tosh was chastised in 2012 for interacting with a female audience member during a performance at a Hollywood comedy club. “Rape jokes are never funny,” an audience member said after hearing a sequence of rape jokes.

Tosh retorted that it would be amusing if the audience member was raped by several males. The exchange prompted a lengthy debate over the appropriateness of jokes about rape. Tosh later apologized for the joke.

Tosh.0

Tosh.0, a Comedy Central television show based on displaying Internet video clips, began on June 5, 2009.

His caustic humor has been described as “envelope-pushing,” and he frequently uses self-deprecating, racist, sexist, or homophobic punchlines.

“I’m not a misogynistic and racist person…But I find those jokes hilarious, therefore I say them,” Tosh says of his non-politically acceptable comedy.
