Daniel Bryan, also known as Bryan Danielson, was born in Aberdeen, Washington and began his wrestling training at Texas Wrestling Academy, after graduating from high school. He won his first professional championship in 2000, and subsequently signed a development deal with the World Wrestling Federation. While wrestling on the Memphis Championship Wrestling circuit, he became known as the “American Dragon”. He then moved overseas to wrestle in Japan, and wrestled as part of Ring of Honor from 2002-2006, becoming ROH’s World Champion. He also wrestled on the independent circuit from 2003-2009. In 2009, he joined World Wrestling Entertainment, and was renamed Daniel Bryan. He remained with them for one year before being kicked out. He returned to the independent circuit in 2010, and then moved back to the WWE later that same year.
Danielson became a vegan in 2009, after getting elevated liver enzymes and several staph infections. In 2012, Danielson was awarded a Libby Award from PETA for being the “Most Animal-Friendly Athlete”. In September 2012, Daniel revealed that he was no longer a vegan due to his inability to find vegan food while travelling on the road for WWE. In 2014, Daniel married WWE Diva Brie Bella, with whom he had been in a relationship for several years. Bryan captured the World Heavyweight Championship, the WWE Championship three times, the WWE Intercontinental Championship, the WWE Tag Team Championship with Kane, and the WWE United States Championship. He was forced to retire from professional wrestling in 2016 at the age of 34 from medical issues. He has continued to appear on WWE programming, most notably as the SmackDown General Manager. He began appearing on the reality TV series Total Divas in 2013 and on the reality series Total Bellas in 2016 with his wife Brie.
