According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the boat carrying Katz and her colleagues was traveling east when it struck a concrete piling.
In Palm Beach, the collision occurred below the Congress Avenue and Southern Boulevard ramp. Authorities are not attempting to establish responsibility for the unfortunate event.

Dana Katz Boating Accident Linked To Death Cause
An team member who died in a boating accident in a canal close to West Palm Beach was recognized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Dana Katz, a 29-year-old FWC Fisheries Biologist from Hypoluxo, Florida, died in the collision, injuring two other civilian workers.
According to the authorities, Katz was dead upon impact due to her injuries. Both the boat’s operator and another woman flung from it suffered injuries.
Their names have not yet been made public. According to officials, the little boat ran into a concrete piling beneath a bridge.
They were all independent biologists. What precipitated the collision is unknown.

The biologist Dana Katz was discovered dead after a boat collision. The news devastated her family and close friends.
Her agency expressed its deepest condolences to them by adding, “The awful passing of FWC Fisheries Scientist Dana Katz leaves us inconsolable.
During this trying time, our thoughts are with Dana’s family and friends.”
Many others shared their sympathy by saying, “Our sympathies are with Dana’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Katz worked for the organization that oversees Florida’s wildlife resources and upholds regulations about them as a freshwater fisheries biologist, by information on her Facebook page.
She lived in Boynton Beach and was reported to have grown up in the Boca Raton region.
It stated that she held a degree from Florida Atlantic University and had previously worked at the Fort Pierce-based FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, which performs marine science research.
The other two scientists’ names were withheld by an FWC representative, who also declined to discuss Katz’s role at the organization or the length of her tenure there.
