Referee Dan Miragliotta underwent weight loss after he had surgery in 2019. Miragliotta is a Muay Thai trainer at Middletown martial arts.
Hailing from New Jersey, Dan is a UFC referee who has refereed since 2007 and has hundreds of events to his name. With a huge MMA refereeing experience under him, he is well-known in the fighting community. He is also known for playing a role in the 2015 action movie, Tracers.
Some love him, while others have called him Dan ‘Bad Stop’ Miragliotta since the fans believe he tends to stop fights at the worst possible moments.
Another thing that is talked about in the MMA community is his weight. Have you seen the guy? He had a massive 295 lbs presence that stacked even some heavy-weight fighters.
However, after 2019, he has become skinnier since he had a procedure to lose body fat. He may no longer have that beefy presence, but the process was done for his health reasons.
Dan Miragliotta Weight Loss Started In 2019
Dan Miragliotta started losing weight in February 2019 and has become prominently visible in 2022.
The process didn’t just happen on its own; he had to follow a strict diet and routine after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery due to a heart attack. His heart attack can be attributed to the massive weight he gained along with his diet habits.
This led him to reduce his weight, eat healthier food, and be more conscious of his body.
When we saw him refereeing in the heavyweight match of Greg Hardy against Juan Adams back on 20th July 2019, he was a beefy guy with lots of weight and a belly to show.
However, when we saw him in the heavy-weight match between Ben Rothwell and Stefan Struve on 7th December 2019, he looked much skinnier and more athletic.
Reactions of His Thin Body From MMA Community
The MMA community showed mixed reactions after seeing his prominent loss of body weight.
One fan in the UFC Reddit forum gossiped about how Dan looked unwell and had 15 upvotes. Another user was impressed by his slender form. Some fans even assumed he had cancer and thought he might be on a ketogenic diet or did chemotherapy.
In the MMA Junkie forum, one user said he had wondered why Dan looked skinny. Another user shared the same sentiment, while one of them was impressed with how quickly he was still refereeing after the surgery. One user said he looked skinny because his huge muscles eventually shrank after his surgical procedure.
Miragliotta Endured Surgery Due to His Heart Condition
Dan Miragliotta underwent a bypass to recover from his Heart Condition, which had become severe by February 2019.
As per a Youtuber, ‘The Freemelon Society,’ when someone needs a quadruple bypass procedure due to a heart attack, one can automatically assume that the patient’s diet was bad. A person cannot have great accruals of waste, fats, and cholesterol in more than one artery without a poor diet.
The heart condition will eventually become severe when the blood vessels in the four arteries get blocked. After facing such a condition, it is no surprise that Dan underwent such a costly and risky treatment.
Dan Miragliotta Diet That Led To Heart Condition
Dan Miragliotta diet had problems that ultimately culminated in his poor heart condition.
From the FreeMelon Society video, we gathered his IG feeds from 2019 since he has a private one as of 2022.
He is an avid fan of fish, with many IG pictures of him posing happily with fish. Fish is not a clean source of meat, as one assumes. Fishes are loaded with fats and poison; if eaten casually for a long time, they can deteriorate your health.
He also posted a photo of him eating pork belly burnt ends with Chipotle and honey, and Dan said it as ‘mouth watering.’ He also had a beef brisket with him. All this provides us the evidence that he enjoys meat. We can also make a valid assumption that if he posts this food on IG, he is comfortable with it, and it is part of his diet.
Dan also posted photos of him with many man-made synthetic protein drinks and other artificial nutritional supplements. He showed empty cans of drinks he drank daily to showcase his fitness dedication.
People believe these supplements and drinks enhance muscles through water retention or sodium increment. However, these artificial stimulants are not natural and are physiologically dangerous. Since he is comfortable displaying these cans on his IG, we can reasonably assume that these drinks were part of his diet.
Miragliotta Diet Plan
Miragliotta diet plan was filled with meat products regularly which led to his heart problem.
BMC Medicine Journal published a study about this in 2021 based on an analysis of 475,000 British men and women. They stated how a high intake of meat, particularly red and processed meat, will harm us long-term through getting health diseases and other fatal illnesses.
Dan was an avid lover of meat. He showcased him eating all kinds of animals, from fish, cows, chickens, and pigs in red roasted form. He was always enthusiastic about it in his IG and was not shy to show himself making BBQs.
This processed food causes a buildup of acidic wastes, increasing the toxemia degree that causes limp stagnation and eventually leads to a lower blood flow. If we check our blood flow from 1- 4 hours after having a big meat food, we will see our blood flow in a reduced figure.
When you combine all the food items from processed meats, supplements, drinks, oils, salts, and grain products and make them into a regular diet, you are bound to suffer from severe health conditions.
Dan Miragliotta surgery surely cost him a lot of money. He did it even after knowing the risks associated with it.
The surgery takes lots of medical expertise since it is generally an open-heart procedure and costs a minimum of $70,000 in the USA.
Moreover, after the surgery, there is a need for physical therapy sessions with the recommended doctors. These sessions include helpful exercises for better arterial blood flow in the heart and make for a speedy recovery. One session can cost from $50 – $350 on average.
We should look at the cost and the risk associated with it. WebMD states that a primary risk of the procedure is that there can be an infection or excessive bleeding at the incision point, leading to demise. Patients can suffer from blood clots that will increase the likelihood of stroke.
However, Dan’s bypass surgery in February looks to be a success since he returned to referee quickly on 30th March 2019 for the match between Kevin Holland and Gerald Meerschaert.
