Dan Folger Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Dan Folger (April 11, 1943 – March 23, 2006) was a singer and composer from the United States. Dan Waren Folger was born in San Rafael, California, but his family relocated to Midland, Texas, when he was a young child, where he became acquainted with future Roy Orbison collaborator Joe Melson. In the 1960s, he and his friends’ shared passion for music prompted them to go to Nashville, Tennessee. Folger composed songs for Acuff-Rose Music while working there under the supervision of Don Gant, including the song “Amy,” which featured on Roy Orbison’s album Many Moods in 1969.

Melson, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, and Glass Bubble, to name a few artists, have covered Folger compositions in their live performances. As a performer, Folger released four singles (eight songs) for Hickory Records between 1962 and 1966, as well as one single for Elf Records in 1967, according to his discography. Folger and Melson collaborated on the writing of many of these hits. Perhaps Folger’s most well-known piece is “Weeping Annaleah,” which he wrote with Mickey Newbury and is considered to be his finest work. It was covered by a variety of artists, including Newbury, Tom Jones, The Box Tops, Gordon Waller, Bob Shane, and Nick Cave (with the title “Sleeping Annaleah”). In 1998, Folger moved to East Texas and spent many years living with the Salvation Army, where he also performed in a Christian band on Sundays. At the S.A., Dan used to spend his spare time composing lyrics for songs he was currently working on. In addition, he worked on artistic drawings. He passed away in Bentonville, Arkansas, in 2006, when he was 62 years old.
