Damon Wayans Jr. had a lot of success as Brad Williams on the ABC comedy series Happy Endings from April 2011 until May 2013. He won praise from critics and a devoted following among a talented ensemble cast that included Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Zachary Knighton, Adam Pally, and Casey Wilson.
Unfortunately, after the third season ended on May 3, 2013, the program was abruptly canceled by ABC despite its widespread appeal. Wayans Jr.’s exceptional performance in Happy Endings earned him accolades for “Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” at the Critic’s Choice Television Awards as well as the NAACP Image Awards.
Wayans Jr. secured a supporting role as Coach on the Fox comedy New Girl in May 2011, while Happy Endings was still airing and starring Zooey Deschanel. Due to the probable clash with his commitment to Happy Endings, it was originally intended to recast Wayans Jr.
Nevertheless, the show’s creators ultimately chose to keep his character, and starting with the second episode, Lamorne Morris took over to play Winston, a former roommate who was training for a basketball career in Latvia.
