Dale Murphy Wife
Murphy is married to his gorgeous life spouse, Nancy. Prior to this, they share eight beautiful children together. They include sons Chad, Travis, Shawn, Tyson, Taylor, Jake, and McKay, and daughter Madison.
In 1997, Dale decided that he would be a father and devoted himself fully to the kids. He didn’t get crazy rich, but he had made enough as a player to never miss a moment as a dad.
The madness of their home became his life. Eight children, seven of them boys, all big enough that three would play college football.
Every day, they collectively drank a gallon of milk and ate three dozen eggs.
The boys shared underwear and socks, picking them out of a massive bin. Holes got knocked in walls. Dale would find a Nolan Ryan-signed baseball in the bushes.
Nancy did 10 loads of laundry a day. They tried to support everyone’s dreams. “The thing we figured out as parents,” Nancy says, “you gotta let them find what they love on their own.
The thing you have to tell your child to stop doing to go to sleep, that’s the thing they love.”
Dale Murphy Hall Of Fame
Murphy became Hall of Fame eligible during the steroid-enhanced home run derby we know as the 1990s, but a bit before baseball’s dirty little secret came to light.
It was a perfect storm for one of the most productive and dominant players of the previous decade to get the shaft.
The Braves legend stayed on the Hall ballot for his entire 15 years of eligibility, peaking at 23 percent of the vote in 2000 and sinking to 11.5 percent in 2009.
Murphy secured just 18.9 percent of the vote on his final ballot in 2013, relegating his last shot at the Hall to the veterans committee.
In his first year of eligibility there, the 16-member Modern Baseball Era Committee selected Jack Morris and Allan Trammell for the 2018 Hall of Fame class, passing up Murphy.
He can, however, appear on the veterans ballot again in two years.

Dale Murphy Braves
Dale Murphy was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 1974 Major League Draft. Throughout the following couple of years, he worked his way through the Braves’ small-time framework and made his significant group debut in 1976.
In spite of the fact that he started his profession as a catcher, he spent a brief timeframe at a respectable starting point lastly wound up in the outfield.
Citing this, he became the youngest player in history to win back-to-back MVP awards (1982 and 1983).
Prior to this, he was named to the National League All-Star team seven times, earned four Silver Slugger awards and five Gold Gloves.
During his 1983 MVP season, however, he became the only player in history to compile a .300+ batting average, 30+ home runs, 120+ runs batted in, 130+ runs scored, 90+ bases on balls, and 30+ stolen bases in one season.
Furthermore, he led the major leagues in home runs and RBIs during the decade spanning 1981-1990.
He also led the National League in games, at-bats, runs, hits, extra-base hits, runs created, total bases, and plate appearances during that same period of time.
With 7,960 at-bats, he retired in 1993 after a long and successful career with the Atlanta Braves (1974-1991), the Philadelphia Phillies (1991-1993), and the Colorado Rockies (1993.)
Most importantly, Dale was one of the most beloved athletes to ever play in Atlanta. His number (#3) was only the fifth in Braves’ history to be retired.
In addition to this, joining those of baseball greats Hank Aaron, Eddie Matthews, Warran Spahn, and Phil Niekro and hangs today in Turner Field.

Dale Murphy Baseball
Murphy is the Most Valuable Player in U.S. baseball’s National League two years running (1982, 1983), the youngest of only five players to ever accomplish this feat.
And the best is yet to come. That seems to be the consensus, at least, of those who know 29-year-old Murphy best—his teammates, his family, his friends.
Sports Illustrated, in a 4 July 1983 cover story, said, “Here’s a guy who doesn’t drink, smoke, chew or cuss.
Here’s a guy who has time for everyone, a guy who’s slow to anger and eager to please, a guy whose agent’s name is Church.
His favorite movie is Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life. He’s a wonderful ballplayer.”
