Da Brat Siblings: Meet Da Brat’s Sister LisaRaye McCoy

Rapper Shawntae Harris-Dupart (April 14, 1974) is better known by her stage name Da Brat. She started her career in 1992 after signing a contract with So So Def Records. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.

She became the second female rap performer overall (solo or group) after Salt-N-Pepa when her debut album Funkdafied (1994) sold one million copies and was certified platinum. She was also the first female solo rapper. When Da Brat won the top prize in a regional rap competition organized by Yo! MTV Raps in 1992, it was her big break. She met the rap duo Kris Kross as part of the reward. Jermaine Dupri, their producer, was introduced to her by them, and he signed her to his So So Def record company.
