Rebecca Bunch
Rebecca Bunch is the show’s main character – a well-trained attorney who worked at a prestigious New York law firm before spending her entire life hoping to reunite with a lover from her past. Below we take a look at the main cast from the start that makes a crazy ex-girlfriend such a popular show.
Rachel Bloom
Rachel Bloom, who co-created the show, plays the part of Rebecca Bunch, a New York attorney who suffers from depression and anxiety. She is an impulsive person who hallucinates when emotionally distressed. The series’ plot has her uprooting her life to move to California to win back a crush named Josh Chan, whom she befriended years earlier at a summer camp. Eccentric and socially awkward, the character was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in season three.
Vincent Rodriguez III
The character of Josh Chan is played by Vincent Rodriguez III. He is mostly clueless towards Rebecca and shows serious commitment issues. The character is also perceived as being very self-centered, but slowly improves as a person and begins a journey of self-discovery.
Santino Fontana
In seasons 1 and 2, Fontana plays the role of GregSerrano – Josh’s best friend who is a bartender, a smart man who is a chronic underachiever. His feelings for Rebecca are complicated and he goes to trade school to get some space from her.
Skylar Astin
In Season 4, Skylar Astin takes over as Greg Serrano.
Donna Lynne Champlin
She plays the role of Paula Proctor, who is Rebecca’s new best friend and collaborator. She has long encouraged Rebecca to pursue Josh in odd ways because she feels unfulfilled in her own life and regrets not pursuing her dreams when she was younger. One gag used throughout the show is how neglectful she and her husband Scott are about their children. She has abilities to scout, track, and manipulate, as well as the tools and gadgets to go with those abilities.
Pete Gardner
Pete Gardner plays the role of Darry Whitefeather. Whitefeather is Rebecca’s boss who is often overly emotional, clueless, and sentimental. He discovers his bisexuality and starts dating Josh Wilson. He develops friends in Rebecca, Paula, Maya and Nathaniel. His relationship with Josh is the strongest on the show until they break up because Whitefeather wants a baby.
Vella Lovell
Lovell plays the role of Heather Davis, a cool college student who is Rebecca’s neighbor and then roommate. She was pampered throughout her childhood and is therefore very dependent and unmotivated to achieve any personal success. In season three, she graduates from college and becomes the regional manager for a bar, as well as a stand-in for Whitefeder’s child.
