In the April of 2014, William was having lunch at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Marion County when he drank what he thought was water. The waitress had refilled the glass of water after his meal with what she had thought was water. Later, it was found that he was served Eco-San with a chemical used as a cleaning agent in the kitchen.
When William took a sip, he realized that it was not the iced water but some chemical that caused a burning sensation in his mouth and esophagus.
Furthermore, Eco-San is a corrosive chemical that caused severe and permanent injuries to William. He is still suffering injuries in his mouth and esophagus. The other symptoms are cramping, bloating, diarrhea, and reflux.
William Cronon Compensation
William Cronon is said to receive $9.4 million as compensation.
The amount was maybe limited due to the Tennessee Civil Damages Act. The jury had awarded $4.3 million for the damages in just 30 minutes. It was one of the fastest verdicts. Later after 10 minutes of additional deliberations, he awarded $5 million for damages.
Furthermore, Thomas Greer, a lawyer for William Cronon told CNN that the speed of the verdict along with the sums speaks volumes about how dangerous the policy of the cracker barrel is.
In addition, Cracker Barrel said that he was ‘disappointed’ by the decision.
