South Africa is in grief once more after the loss of an icon. Rapper and composer Costa Tsobanoglou, popularly known as Costa Titch, passed unexpectedly after falling during a music event in Johannesburg.
According to videos that went viral on social media on Saturday night, the 27-year-old was singing one of his songs while performing on stage when he fell to the ground.
Thanks to his security, he was able to stand back up quickly and resume performing. Nevertheless, he later fell again and this time was unable to stand back up.
Others were seen scurrying and extending their hands to help him. Costa was playing at the Ultra South Africa music festival. His passing has not yet received an official confirmation, and neither has its reason.
Costa had just secured a deal with Akon’s record company, Konvict Kulture, and his death comes exactly one month after the shooting death in Durban of another South African tapper, Kiernan Forbes alias AKA.
With compositions like “Big Flexa,” “Nkalakatha,” and “Activate,” Titch became well-known for his contribution to the Amapiano style.
Akon, an American musician, is featured in a remix of Big Flexa that was recently made public and has received over 45 million views on YouTube.
Despite the lack of an official confirmation of his passing, a number of musicians, music networks, and politicians have expressed their condolences, including Julius Sello Malema, a South African congressman.
