Is Roy Cropper Leaving Corrie? Roy, a fictitious character played by David Neilson in the British ITV soap opera Coronation Street, has announced his departure from the program.
In July 1995, David Neilson’s character Royston Cropper was introduced as “a bizarre and scary loner” living in a flat near the long-running surface of Deirdre Rachid (Anne Kirkbride).
Actor David Neilson was cast in the role after being recommended by Stephen Mallatratt, a close friend of Neilson’s who helped “shape the character.”
According to Neilson, the character was initially intended to appear for only six episodes, but the role was expanded, and Roy became a regular.
Learn About Roy Cropper
Roy is primarily described as an “incidental character,” with no notable stories until 1997. After that, the soap transformed the scenes.
Coronation Street was falling behind BBC rival EastEnders in the ratings, so a new executive producer, Brian Park, was hired to breathe new life into the show and bring in younger viewers.

Apart from multiple axes and the introduction of various dramatic storylines, Park also decided to give some of the soap’s lesser-known characters a much higher profile.
He also played as Roy, who was thrust into the spotlight in 1997 and 1998, taking over a share in Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) café (renaming it Roy’s Rolls).
As a result, the character received more screen time and was progressively integrated into other characters’ lives.
Is Roy Cropper Leaving Coronation Street For Good?
Fans of Coronation Street are worried about Roy Cropper, who took a shocking decision tonight.
Roy just decided to tell the cops he saw Abi (Sally Carman) brandishing a gun at Corey (Maximus Evans).
In later episodes, DS Abney probes Roy about the night of the sinkhole collapse, and this decision comes back to haunt him.
Roy phones the solicitors and informs Imran (Charlie De Melo) that he no longer needs his flat and business and wants to sign over his flat and business to Nina (Mollie Gallagher).

When Nina learns that Roy plans to leave, she gathers his friends in the café to tell them how much he means to them.
Carla (Alison King) plays Roy a voice message Nina left for him, hinting that Roy was dragged into something against his will.
Carla leaves, heartbroken when Roy refuses to be drawn. But, even if Roy goes through with his plans, it might not be for the best.
Though Roy’s fate is unknown, David Neilson’s character isn’t being killed off, so there’s always the possibility that he’ll show up again.
With so many ties to Weatherfield, he might decide that a brief respite from the streets is all he requires.
