Coosje van Bruggen Cause Of Death: How did Claes Oldenburg’s wife die?

Coosje van Bruggen, a critic, art historian, and artist famous for the vibrant public sculptures she made with her pop artist husband Claes Oldenburg around the world passed away in Los Angeles.

She was 66 years old and lived in Beaumont-sur-Dême in the Loire Valley of France and New York.

According to Andrea Glimcher, head of communications at PaceWildenstein, who has been Ms. van Bruggen’s legal counsel since 1990, the cause was metastatic breast cancer.

More than 40 public sculptures were produced by Ms. van Bruggen and Mr. Oldenburg during a three-decade period for parks, cities, and museums.

The majority of the artworks feature monumentally sized objects that frequently make sardonic allusions to their surroundings, such as the 38-foot-tall upended “Flashlight” (1981) installed at the University of Las Vegas or the enormous bicycle “Bicyclette Ensevelie” (“Buried Bicycle,” 1990), which is depicted as appearing to be partially buried in the Parc de la Villette in Paris.
