Daniel Elena-Lopez: Denver Shooting Suspect
A man in a tank top and shorts was seen taking a bicycle up the store’s escalator to the second story in early surveillance tapes.
He seemed puzzled as he went around, carrying a cable-style bike lock. He stood immobile, peering into the distance at moments.
The man on the down escalator was later seen attacking a woman, who managed to escape his grasp and escape the store.
According to authorities, the man then exited the store for about a minute and a half. After he returned, he brutally hit a woman with a bike lock while she cowered on the ground.
He also dragged her down the hallway into the changing rooms as she tried to run.
Armed officers entered the store and approached the suspect. The victim was found on the blood-streaked floor, while the suspect stood on the opposite side of the aisle.
At least one cop fired a shot, injuring the man, and died at the scene.
Valentina Orellana-Peralta, 14, was also slain while hiding with her mother inside the dressing room. She died in the arms of her mother.
