The Real Story Behind Cocaine Bear

The real story of Cocaine Bear is just as unbelievable as the two words but these are enough to summarize what truly happened in the 1980s.

In December of 1885, a former narcotics officer turned convicted drug smuggler, Andrew Carter Thornton II, made a drug smuggling business into the U.S. from Colombia.

His mastermind plan abruptly ended when he got found by the police, heavily armed, carrying thousands of dollars and 77 pounds of cocaine.

The authorities theorized his parachute failed him when he made the abrupt exit from his plane, leading to his passing. He had plans to cover his tracks by directing the aircraft on autopilot mode and setting it on a path to the Atlantic ocean while parachuting into a jungle.

He was not the only casualty of the calamity when a hunter discovered a deceased bear in Chattahoochee National Forest the next month.

Besides the carcass was a duffel bag with an insane amount of coaches that the poor animal overdosed on.

When Andrew was making his escape, he realized his cargo was too heavy and threw it off the exit. The bear found the bag with peculiar chemicals as the curiosity killed the cat.
