Clint Holmes Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Clint Holmes (born May 9, 1946) is a singer-songwriter and performer in Las Vegas who is most known for his work as a composer. He was born in the English seaside town of Bournemouth, the son of an African-American jazz pianist and a white English opera soprano. Growing up, he was brought up in Farnham, New York, a tiny town southwest of Buffalo, where he grew up. Holmes is probably best remembered for his 1973 hit single “Playground In My Mind,” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. On the chorus of the nursery rhyme-styled tune, Holmes performs a duet with producer Paul Vance’s son Philip (who died on December 13, 2009), who was also a musician. In the United States, the song “Playground In My Mind,” written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss, was published in July 1972, but didn’t make it to the Hot 100 until the 24th of March 1973, where it remained for 23 weeks. The Royal Institute of the Arts (R.I.A.A.) awarded it gold disc certification on July 3, 1973. The song did much better in Canada, where it topped the RPM 100 national singles charts for three consecutive weeks in the same year it was released there (June 23 – July 7).
This storey may be found in Johnny Holliday’s book, Johnny Holliday: My Life and Times. From the Rock to the Jock: “At WWDC, I also had a role in breaking a world record. “Playground of My Mind” was the song, and it was composed by Paul Vance, who I had known from my WINS days in New York City. Clint Holmes, a young musician with a lot of potential who has yet to be recognised, recorded it. Clint had established a local audience at Mr. Day’s in Georgetown as well as a number of other D.C. nightlife establishments. When Clint’s record promoter dropped off the single at WWDC, we were there to take advantage of the opportunity. It became an overnight sensation. Clint is one of those people that you instantly like the moment you meet him for the very first time. He and I spent a lot of time together in Candy Cane Park in Silver Spring, where we played tennis and shot basketball. He’s a terrific athlete, to be sure. Clint has achieved so much in his professional life that I couldn’t be more pleased with him. Following the success of ‘Playground,’ he joined Joan Rivers on her short-lived late-night programme on Fox, and then he landed his own television show on WOR-TV in New York City.”
At Fredonia State College, Holmes was studying vocal music when he was called up to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his three-year military service (1967–1969) with the highly selective United States Army Chorus, he stayed in the Washington, D.C. region to begin his civilian singing career, performing in nightclubs across the Eastern United States. As the announcer for The Late Show with Joan Rivers (1986–1988), the first broadcast programme of Fox Broadcasting Company, Holmes was a pioneer in the field of television announcers. Since the early 1970s, Holmes has been a popular attraction in the Las Vegas entertainment business. In 2006, he announced the cancellation of his headline performance at Harrah’s Las Vegas Casino, which had renamed its main showroom in his honour the previous year. He presented the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge on the BET network from 1990 to 1995, and when the tournament was no longer televised, he continued to emcee the final bouts until 2008. The majority of Holmes’ Vegas band members are also members of Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns, a regionally famous R&B/jazz combo that performs regularly in Las Vegas. Holmes has made a yearly pilgrimage to Buffalo in March to co-host the annual Variety Kids telethon on WKBW-TV, which has garnered widespread attention.
